Former Member Of Tajik Opposition Group Gets 6 Years In Prison
Sulaimon Jobirov, a former member of Tajikistan's Group 24 opposition movement, was sentenced to six years in prison on a charge of cooperating with a banned organization, a relative told RFE/RL on August 1. Jobirov went missing in Russia, where he has resided for years, in April. He was subsequently located at a detention center in Dushanbe. Group 24 was labeled as a terrorist organization and banned in Tajikistan in 2014. The group's current self-exiled leader Ubaidullo Saidi, has said Jobirov quit the banned movement eight years ago.
